Lowe Hangin' Out at Hall's House

I have to thank my friend John for pointing out this one to me. Daryl Hall (yes, that one of Hall & Oates fame) has an online show called Live from Daryl's House. About once a month a new streaming video episode is released with an artist joining Hall in his house (actually houses, as he has more than one) to perform a short intimate set with some discussion. You even get to view the musicians working out the arrangements a bit. The latest episode has Nick Lowe come to the house where he performs; I Live on a Battlefield, Shelley My Love, Rome Wasn't Built in a Day, Cruel to be Kind, and a few others.

Rare International Submarine Band 7"

Sundazed Records has reissued the rare 1966 Columbia Records 7" from the International Submarine Band for the song 'One Day Week' with the b-side 'Sum Up Broke.' Gram Parsons appears on both tracks and neither track appeared on the album Safe at Home that appeared after Parsons had left the band. More info at Sundazed's web site.

Double Dose of Justice

Billy Bragg's new record Mr Love & Justice was released in two forms. One was a standard single CD, while the other was a deluxe two disc version. The first disc, which is the same as the standard release, contains twelve songs performed by Billy Bragg and the Blokes (a backing band that includes Ian McLagan of the Small Faces and Lu Edmonds of the Mekons). The second disc contains all of the songs from the album but are solo versions done by Billy.

Same As It Never Was

London hip-hop/jazz/electronic outfit The Herbaliser released their new record Same as it never was last week. The aptly titled album sees the group going in a new direction. Originally a duo (Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry) that brought in a large number of guests for their records, the group has expanded to a five members who are now employing more of a live sound. The result is a record that has more of a funk sound than previous efforts. There is a free MP3 for the song "You're not all that" that the band has posted at a microsite http://www.same-as-it-never-was.com/.
